Do you have the Rudy Syndrome?
The year 2008 is almost over. As we take inventory of the past year, we might ask ourselves a series of questions like: what did I do this year? Who did I help? Where did I go? What did I accomplish? How did I improve my life or the life of someone else? And, most importantly, did I avoid the Rudy Syndrome?
If you forgot what the Rudy Syndrome is, or if you just need a refresher course, go back and read the post from this week last year here.
Over the past several months, we have heard a lot of people talking about doom and gloom.
Economic downturn.
Bailouts.
Layoffs.
Health care crisis.
Fighting two wars.
Overwhelming debt.
Financial crisis.
Recession.
And on and on.
Maybe those naysayers are right. Maybe there is a lot to be concerned about right now. Maybe it's the beginning of the end of life as we know it. But, I don't think so. Even if every one of the items on that list were to play out to its most disastrous possible end, it wouldn't change the fact that each of us as individuals has something to be thankful for. We each have something to offer. We each have a talent to develop and use for the good of the order.
So, I have to ask as we get ready to welcome 2009: do you have the Rudy Syndrome? Or, are you developing your skill on par with your talent? I'd like to know. Surely someone out there must have something positive to say about 2008. Surely someone is looking forward to what they will do in 2009. If you're one of those people, let me know.
Really. Do you have the Rudy Syndrome? If so, what are you going to do about it in 2009?

I'm afraid of radiation! What should I do?
